3rd Grade Field Trip

Science and art collide in this virtual tour of Kelly Bourgeois’s Colors exhibit with guided art activity from Holter educator Sondra Hines.

Summary

This lesson blends art and science with expression of feelings and emotions. We ask students to work in pairs, and experiment with additive color process (mixing colored light) to design a simple stage set that exhibits an emotion or feeling of their choice. Students will explore aspects of additive color theory (mixing color with light) as it pertains and compares to subtractive color theory (mixing color with paint). Part of this includes becoming familiar with the primary colors for additive color theory (RBG) and explore the colors that can be made with these primaries.

Start by viewing the 8 minute exhibition tour before beginning the guided art activity and working along with Holter educator Sondra Hines in this collision of science and art!
