Students will create a small square bottomed basket with a variety of basketry techniques (plaited base, weaving the sides, twining, lashing a rim, creating and wrapping side handles) using dyed and natural reed. Emphasis will be on basic structure, techniques and construction of a basket and creating your own unique piece. Each piece will be unique.
This is reed (rattan) basket class. It focuses heavily on the concept of basketry and encourages creativity while teaching structure and basketry technique. This is a perfect first basketry class!
About your instructor: Annetta has taught basketry for over 20 years, traveling across America to teach her basketry designs at fiber and basket conventions and for guilds, schools and private groups.
From the artist, “A lifelong passion for color and admiration for traditional pottery shapes and mathematical patterns has led me to the baskets I currently weave. Although ever evolving, the paper vessels I create today make use of layered color and texture that enhances the interplay of light and shadow. In order to give depth and dimension to my work, materials, color and techniques are carefully chosen to create both pattern and form.”
