Learn to create intricate and detailed molds with silicone and polymer clay sculptures. Silicone molds are a flexible material that allows you to consistently create a shape/object/form, by pouring a liquid material into the mold and allowing it to solidify. They can be used to create objects out of resin, chocolate, soap, plaster, or even concrete and have applications in baking, candy making, crafting and jewelry making, industrial applications, prototyping, and even art!
Why silicone? So many reasons! Silicone is flexible and allows for reuse. Its non-stick surface means finished products can be removed without sticking to the surface. This also means the mold can be used again without damaging its surface, unlike some other die or molding making processes in which the mold is destroyed. Silicone is durable. It can withstand repeated use. Some silicones (food grade) are heat resistant and can be used in high temperatures applications such as ovens or hot liquids being poured in to solidify. Due to its material properties, silicone allows for highly intricate and finely detailed designs.
Students should come prepared with an idea of what they want to make. Our molds will be confined to a 4 inch x 4 inch space. Designs must be smaller than these dimensions to allow for the mold to work.
