Artist and musician Marla Goodman brings her talents to the Holter for a weekend of creativity! A grandmother, 5th generation Montanan, and self-described community art activist, Marla Goodman worked as a graphic designer until her obsession with a rare and fascinating musical instrument propelled her unlikely trajectory into performance art. Her “Vinyl Sisters Fraternal Twin Theremin Show” combines paintings, collage animation and memoir with music produced live on the Theremin, a gesture controlled synthesizer invented c. 1920. In an imaginary world woven through her live performances and homemade YouTube videos, Goodman’s personae, Polly and Dolly Vinyl, perform classic Theremin repertoire and project her kitsch-infused contemporary art through a wildly fictional and darkly comedic family history. The Holter will be hosting two events with Marla. You do not need to attend both events (but we recommend it)! Read below to learn more.

All Ages
Goodman will showcase her talents on the Theremin, an unconventional musical instrument that produces sound without the use of physical touch. The Theremin’s sensors respond to specific hand movements, allowing the performer to create unique and haunting melodies. This is a concert unlike any other!
