Bringing these works back to the public eye is like sharing pieces of a puzzle, like old bones that tell the story, that remind us of the lives gone by but continue to reverberate … through the currents of the present, through the lives and works of their progeny, and through each their long legacy of touching the lives of many. Their teaching, their spirited hospitality, and these treasured fragments of their prolific production of art, Bob and Gennie were a beloved hub of family, friends, and community. – Tina, April 2026
This is the vision of this exhibition. It is a collage of paintings and prints from the permanent collection of the Holter Museum of Art to celebrate the lives and works of Robert and Gennie DeWeese. Some of the works of Josh DeWeese, Gretchen Bainum and Tina DeWeese will be shown as a “reverberating continuity” of the influence of their parents.
Many thanks to Gianna Sherman, Curator, for handling this curatorial challenge! And much gratitude to Michele Corriel for lending her assistance to Tina’s sometimes overwhelming task of selecting from the extensive catalogs of archived work, created by Hannah Harvey, Registrar. Christina Barbachano, Holter Executive Director, has been immeasurably supportive in directing the implementation of this collective exhibition.
Thank you to the Holter Museum of Art for presenting this exhibition and for their role in helping to preserve this important collection of Montana Contemporary Art.
