The Sun Sets Midafternoon – Climate Grief through Wildfire with Jessica Hays

In this artist talk, Jessica Hays will discuss her current exhibition The Sun Sets Midafternoon in depth, further illuminating her conceptual grounding and working processes. Attention is paid to research informing the work, including cutting edge psychological studies on climate grief and solastalgia, alongside a visual investigation into wildfire. Behind the scenes information about how the artist creates the work, including what a typical day on a fire looks like, is also discussed. Hays will elaborate on the importance of the written word to this project – how she creates literary images that she cannot photographically convey, and how she creates photographs to convey what words cannot.
